Artist
Having originally studied Fashion Design at Trent Polytechnic in the 80’s I then went on to train and work as a Fashion Buyer for many years which gave me a creative commercial awareness. Following on from the Fashion industry I trained as a Lecturer and have now taught in Further and Higher Education for over twenty years. I am currently a Senior Lecturer and a practice based researcher at Leicester De Montfort University .
I am a multidisciplinary artist have and had a lifelong obsession with colour and pattern which has been influenced by personal heritage, life experiences and travel . My personal practice has developed into mainly mixed media abstract , upcycled Agricultural textiles and I am an ‘Everythingist’ .
I consider myself as an artist who is obsessed with colour and the juxtaposition of colour in pattern , ceramics ,textiles ,embroidery and indeed life . I am constantly striving to create a colourful visual feast inspired by life influences .
My work is inspired by many personal collections, comparing ,reflecting and responding to stimuli .
Memories and abstract ideas, vibrant colour ,texture and pattern are an essential part of my practice. Horse and animal imagery is present in much in many of my pieces and some outcomes could be described as mythical.
The personal methodology of my work is also an essential consideration when responding to stimulus, I enjoy experimenting and developing ideas and creating colourful and sometimes batty visual responses through sketchbooks, mini video , installation and sampling.
'I am interested in how personal heritage and life’s experiences live on in artwork and textiles and how they communicate to a new generation.
Much of my inspiration comes from personal heritage and the culture of places I have visited whilst growing up and whilst working and travelling internationally in the Fashion Industry.
Bold abstract work has been created in response to Covid 19 as a way of experimentation and wellbeing .
Latest work incorporates Agricultural upcycled Textiles raise awareness of Fashion and Textiles sustainability and as Co-founder of T-Extinction a giant tassel and passementerie experimentation using upcycled materials..
